Boruto does get slow after this arc for a while, but then it picks up quickly again

You haven't reached the bad parts of boruto yet. After the movie arc, plot goes at a snails pace.

just to be fair i think Sasuke assumed Sarada was one of the enemy as he had previously battled another child with the sharingan. Probably the last thought in his mind at that time was that his daughter was coming to see him.

That is 100% what he assumed. The issue is that he didn't recognise his own daughter. Even if he wasn't expecting her, it's pretty bad that he didn't recongise her when he saw her.

Admittedly I stopped watching Boruto after Sumire’s arc. But I think hype for Boruto really does seem to increase whenever the og characters come into play. I mean especially Team 7 because how can it not, right?

There's definitely some good arcs. I wonder if somebody has been putting together a "Boruto Kai" cut to trim a lot of the fat and give "just the essentials"
