You completely missed the fact that Guy finally remembered Kisame's name in the end, after having never recognized him every time they fought, even back in OG Naruto when Kisame and Itachi infiltrated the village.

Kisame had more of a badass death than a sad death.

The hidden leaf and the other villages had always been skirmishing in the past for various reasons. Like you said the hidden leaf did a lot of self serving actions, but every other village was really no better. They were all corrupt. Just like the hidden leaf was after hidden mist intel, you have situations like when the hidden cloud tried to kidnap Hinata.
