The Black Queen - House of The Dragon Episode 10 Reaction

Comments

In the very first episode Rhaenyra’s mother told her that the birthing bed is the woman’s battlefield. This was one of the primary reasons that they kept going back and forth between the violence at the tournament and the violence of the birthing scene in episode one. I think this idea of the pain and difficulty of giving birth, especially in this Medieval type is world, is something they wanted to stress as a contrast to the men being warriors. I seriously doubt you will see much, if anything, in the way of childbirth in the future seasons. And yes, Steejo is correct that this season was a sort a prologue to the rest of the series. It is a series about a Targaryen Civil War. But they used this season to give you the background that led up to the war. This was the reason for so many time jumps and covering so many years this season. The following seasons should follow a more traditional type of timeline for a television series. The dragon that Daemon was wooing was his grandfather’s dragon Vermithor. He has been riderless for a while now. But he is one of the biggest dragons after Vaghar. And he has seen battle. I honestly don’t think Daemon wants the throne for himself. He was unhappy when Viserys unnamed him as his heir. But I think that was much more about wanting to be needed and respected by his brother. And Otto always worked to create a wedge between Daemon and Viserys. IMO his anger at Rhaenyra in this episode was in large part what she identified. When she told him about the prophecy it was another example of something his brother had not shared with him. Of course he was also angry about her considering any appeasement with the Greens. I am really looking forward to the next season and I enjoyed watching your reactions to this one!

Yes aemond was not happy about doing that, he was just toying with him but when Luke's dragon arrax attacked vhagar aemond lost control of vhagar. That's why aemond was trying to get vhagar to listen to him again and that's why he was in shock and in disbelief. Vhagar killed Luke and arrax, grandma dragon was not gonna take no shit from a baby dragon lol. And no, baby death scenes are crucial to show more emotion
Loved the reaction!

Answers to a few of your questions.

It was Luke that took the eye not Jace. Jace threw dirt in Aemonds face and Luke grabbed the knife and cut his eye. That is why at the last family dinner Luke was starring so much at Aemond. That is also why Aemond was so directly staring at Luke during his speech.

In this episode Aemond wants to give Luke’s eye to his mother because Alicent had ordered Criston Cole to take it in episode 7.

Aemond on the dragon was harassing Luke but laughing. Once Luke’s dragon put fire on Vaghar. . Aemond started saying no Vaghar, No. Serve me Vaghar. No. Clearly Aemond was not actually trying to kill Luke. Otherwise he wouldn’t have said that. You guys missed that.

Viserys told Rhaenyra in one of the first episodes that it was a illusion that they could control the dragons. That really the dragons had a mind of their own to paraphrase. So we see here Luke and Aemond not being able to control their dragons. Both of these boys are young not even 20 yrs old. Once Vaghar is attacked he responds no matter what Aemond says. That is why Aemond has that look on his face. He knows how this will affect the war. Who is going to believe he didn’t order the dragon to kill. But also Aemond is smart as we saw in episode 9. He himself would like to be King.

Rhaenyrs flew off to patrol the gullet. That’s why you see 3 dragons leave dragonstone.

Joffrey would now inherit Driftmark as Laenors son if Lucerys isn’t alive.

Daemon was supposed to go to riverrun next. The large dragon he is singing to is Vermithor. He mentioned him when talking at the table meeting.

As far as was the birth scene necessary, everyone has their opinions. Mine is they wanted to impress the level of physical pain Rhaenyra had on top of emotional pain. To then hop on a dragon a few hours later and deal with Otto. Also you may have missed the flashes of her dragon she was seeing during the birth. Daemon having ptsd when asked if he would like to speak to the maester reminding him of his first wife’s death as Rhaenyra screamed for him. The fact that in grief after the baby was born they did not come together for each other they grieved separately. One of the first signs in this episode of the crack in their relationship. Jace seeing his mother in such pain gave him the gumption to confront Daemon as heir. The main point of this episode is Rhaenyra has lost 2 children in 2-3 days. In the books she heavily blames the greens for both. Maybe after Dani got such pushback for going mad they really needed to show the viewer the depths of what Rhaenyra suffered in the beginning of the episode. And that after all that she still wanted to negotiate or not rush in. Then with what happens to Luke her face is similar to Dani’s at kings landing hearing the bells.

It isn’t the same writers but it is still Miguel the director in both series. They need some of those gory scenes to draw in certain viewers as they did in GOT with the white walkers and Ramsey. Obviously there are some people that like it or they wouldn’t watch it. Other people don’t care for it.

Season 2 trailer is out. Aug 21 release date. All of season 2 has been spoiled online so be careful especially on YouTube.
