Eren froze up and started crying because Reiner and bertholdt were his best friends for 3 years after Armin. THey helped everyone get better during their training andeveryone felt like reiner and bertholdt were there big brothers. It was much harder for eren and the rest to accept them as the titans compared to Annie.

Just a little note. Personally, I think Eren was put in a horrible position. They were told to completely avoid the subject with Reiner and Berthold but they ended up outing themselves. This unveiling couldn’t have happened at a worse time because the are unprepared for capture and right on the edge of titan territory. Eren wasn’t struggling with his feelings of disbelief. Rather trying to hopefully stave of the fight so that they could launch one on their own terms. Ill preparedness spells death in AoT and Eren desperately wants to save the lives of his comrades. Him trying his hardest to pretend like it’s battle fatigue actually shows some emotional maturity from him

Another fun one that most people miss on their first view: you can actually see Bertholdt ready to bite his hand to transform in the previous episode when the tower crumbles because of Ymir's titan. Ymir came just in time to save them, otherwise his cover would be blown.

There is so much foreshadowing throughout season 1 and the episodes in season 2 leading up to this one. There is a video on youtube showing all the annie/reiner/bertoldt foreshadowing that was super obvious yet went over almost everyone's heads.

In the end you mentioned, that there are probably a lot of hidden details in past episodes, and you are so correct. For example: When Eren first turned into a Titan and then almost got eaten, Reiner was immediately ready to help him, because he knew there was a human inside (while everyone else was still totally confused why a Titan would fight other Titans )

Suzy, the reason why eren didn't believe reiner and bertholdt were the armored and colossal titans until they transformed was because, reiner, bertholdt and eren were friends for over three years, it's understandable that he wouldn't want to believe that two of his closest friends were the same people responsible for the death of his mother and the destruction of his hometown.
