He knows he can't do anything to Byakuya, but he has balls of steel and marched out there willing to trade his life to save Rukia's. He was not trading his life for a chance to get in Rukia's pants lol. He was sick of always running away from his problems, and wanted to protect someone he cared about. She is his friend, and it was her that gave him more confidence and changed his cowardice. It WAS dumb in a way cause Byakuya would not have been delayed by Hanataro at all, but I think it was also very courageous and admirable. Love him for that.
