The reason they call him a dog is because he's a dog demon, and his name literally means "Dog demon", and has dog ears, and acts like a dog, and his dad is a dog.

Inu is dog, but I'm pretty sure Yasha is 'half,' so it's either 'Dog demon' or 'Half dog.' Either could work
