Gai is the same power level as Kakashi, granted that he's better suited to fight Itachi but Itachi is still leaps and bounds beyond them both at this point.
Itachi would've destroyed Gai, especially since Itachi don't have to use his eyes to cast genjutsus and Gai don't know that at this point.
MAYBE Gai could possibly take Itachi out by [Censored] and using [Censored] but even then he would have to make sure he wasn't in an illusion first since its sort of a one time only thing.

i love itachi but lbh no chance itachi beats 8 gates gai, izanami is his only hope since gai can break far bigger susano than itachi's, i dont think itachi can survive against gai his sharingan techniques are risky and uses too much chakra, i saw your other comments you seems like a itachi stan im too but dont be delusional we saw what he did to kisame without 8 gates not to mention his madara fight lol
Oooor... He could be referring to Gai, Kurenai, Asuma PLUS the small army of Anbu Black ops Gai called. Gai is about the same strength at Kakashi who Itachi quite literally toyed into half a coma. I won't bring up the many, many, MANY examples of just how far beyond them Itachi really is that you can find in Shippuden only cus I don't know if you've watched Shippuden yet and I don't wanna spoil it if you havnt.
My favourite character is kakashi too so its even cooler to see that im not alone in the way i reacted to episodes like this. The first time and every time since ive screamed at my screen whenever i see kakashi get hurt lol
