Technically I don't think there's a limit on how long someone can be kept alive on life support, so in theory they could spent decades in the game. But the effects on their bodies would be severe. They would suffer muscle atrophy and would probably need to learn to walk again. It would take months at the least to fully recover once they got out of the game.
