I think Ryuk represents almost an insert for the audience member, on top of being a comic relief and exposition. For being in the background a lot he serves a lot of functions in the storytelling. Just like you, me, and most anyone else, he's just really excited to see what's gonna happen next in this human drama when a couple of the get their hands on a world-changing artifact that he'd always taken for granted.

I think you have the wrong idea about Misa Misa. It's not that she is stupid, she is just devoted to Light. Light already made it clear that he does not care about her since he threatened to kill her, and she knows he is just using her as a tool. That is what she wants though, to be used as his tool. Light is manipulating her, but she is aware of the manipulation and it's what she wants. That's what I think.
