This is one of the only episodes that pissed me off out of all 500. Why would Kishimoto let this man get his ass kicked by some weak nobody right after he defeated Pain and became the village hero? If this happened at another time it would still be bad but right after he saved the village why do this?
I get he was swallowing his pride and that this was his solution at the time but, what good was it when it did nothing? She would have kept knocking him around if not for Sai. Her hate didn't magically go away, Sai deserves more kudos for stepping in as a friend.

I agree. I didn't agree with it. I dont even blame the girl because she was pissed of and since Naruto said take it out on him then she did. But it goes back to someone many people missed in his talk with Nagato. Up to now, Naruto has not actually provided an real answer on how he would end the cycle of hatred. His answer is just to continue believing it will end. So now he has this situation and the ask him, what are they supposed to do about their hatred and he has no good answer so he told them take it out on him. It goes to who Naruto is. Very idealistic but with no actual solutions to complex problems. That's why he let himself get beat up, because he has no answer.
I understand what you're saying. I just hated this scene. He may not have had an answer but never in my life would I let someone beat me cause someone I know wronged them. They could have easily directed their hatred towards the Akatsuki since that's the group that sent Sasuke anyway.
I don't think this situation has too much to do with his intelligence and more so to do with his toxic "bond" with Sasuke that Sai mentioned. I think a combination of guilt for Sasuke's actions and no answer to their hated he allowed himself to be a punching bag even though there were much better ways this could have been handled. Normally Naruto wouldn't let anyone put hands on him like that.
@Rhondel, YES! Thank you, that’s pretty much how I took it. It took balls to even give this “solution” a shot in my opinion, and shows that Naruto is really looking for answer when to most people it looks like he’s just being dumb which is not true he is heavily conflicted.

The reason it happened AFTER he saved the village was because he learned for Pain the cycle of hatred. Naruto believed if Sauske was killed there would be retaliation from his friends. He asked to take the punishment instead. It shows the lengths Naruto will go to now to bring peace to the ninja world, no matter how unlikely it is. Naruto was wrong obviously. They wanted to do more than beat Sauske to a bloody pulp. Also, only person left in the leaf who would consider retaliation for Sauske's death would be Sakura at this point and even that seems unlikely to me. Kishimoto was trying to turn Naruto into a Jesus figure, but while Jesus knew what he was doing, Naruto's plan was obviously futile and thus came across as cringey and pathetic. I agree Sai deserves more credit. It kinda went against orders to interfere as he supposed to just keep watch over him.
Facts Naruto forces his friendship on Sasuke. Sasuke admitted that they were friends but he was ending their friendship in the Final Valley so Idk why Naruto can't take a hint, this man literally piledrived him like Bret Hart and walked off after almost killing him. It comes off as a creepy obsession at times imo. If someone doesn't want to be bothered with you leave them alone whether you think the path they take is right or not. Also you're right Sai would never be a match for Sasuke unless he unlocked some hidden power that could rival Sasuke and even then he would need to strengthen this ability and many others at high levels of jutsu.
Its been proven why naruto cares so much for sasuke ... you either haven’t finished the anime or you made that stupid claim because you know nobody can prove you wrong since it would be spoilers...
Also one of the hints that was mentioned was on the next episode how naruto thinks sasuke is being controlled by madara uchija just like he thought sasuke was being controlled by orochimaru.
