No sasuke would not of layed a scratch on itachis forehead. Madara says to sasuke after the fight if itachi wanted you dead he would of certainly killed you. Itachi is one of the strongest characters in naruto and allows himself to be defeated not because he’s out matched or out skilled.

This is what pisses me off about the naruto anime. Flash back after flashback after flashback. It would be different if it was a couple flashbacks here and there that we havent seen but we dont need multiple episodes back to back filled with flashbacks that we have seen multiple times. And the flash backs only get worst from here.
To be fair, if he was still alive, Sasuke wouldn't even have the Susanoo or the Amaterasu because he wouldn't have the Mangekyou Sharingan. He only got it after he had killed Itachi, the one closest to him. So at the point of the two of them fighting, had Itachi been healthy, he would have won without a doubt, but since he was weakened due to the illness and since he also held back, he lost. He lost so sasuke would gain more strength, but didn't tell him anything so he wouldn't hate the leaf, but madara wanted him to, so he told him the truth.
Against Itachi neither of those would matter. He knows how to use them far better then Sasuke. Granted Sasuke does take both to a point further then Itachi. But it doesn't change the tactics in the use of them. The biggest thing you should draw from both their fights is Itachi was always in control of the flow of the battle. He just has far more battle experience then Sasuke to ever be caught off guard. The boy is strong, but even in that last fight against Danzo, Tobi/Madara spoke of his poor choices in they way he was using his abilities. He could have won that fight without using his mangekyo as much as he did. Would be nice to see a real fight between them though ^^.
One of the points that sadly always seem to be ignored is that Itachi was like 90% blind during that fight and still pushed Sasuke to his limits even though he was sick and also immensely holding back and even taking some hits for the sake of making Sasuke think that he has a chance of winning lol
