Suzi the reason they were able to plant him as a spy is because itachi was an ANBU that worked directly under the 3rd hokage and the rest of the Uchiha except for Shisui who was also an ANBU, were all in the Military Police Force.

Itachi is an Uchiha from the Uchiha clan, he was spying his own clan.

Yes Itachi is an Uchiha sometime before this episode it was stated that Itachi was apart of the Anbu black ops and that he was the Uchiha's pipeline to the village nerf center of information. The Elders planted him as a spy as said in this episode but he's not some random guy that was planted into the clan.

Suzy yes itachi was an Uchiha from the Uchiha clan if he wasnt he wont have the sharingan which only occurs in clan members except kakashi you already know the story behind him.
He is blood related to saskue it was just his mission to be a spy on his clan members as he was given this mission from the hidden leaf village. the rest will be explained in the next episode, hope that helped

I was confused by his words as well when he said they implanted Itachi as a spy but Itachi IS an Uchiha.

The half credit for creation of hidden leaf village goes to uchiha clan and yet none of them was ever made a hokage.. The leaders placed them almost outside of the village and they got no position or post in government of village either... 😔😔
