"Why didn't they just adapt it when the manga released?" Suzy your uninformed opinions are borderline stupid. Why didn't they do that with the Game of Thrones show? Why don't you post all of your reactions once you have completed the entire series? See? Stupid questions. The manga is its own thing. It releases weekly. The anime adaptation is a separate (almost always worse) thing. If the anime hopes to be as good as the manga, they have to adapt 3-4 chapters (a whole month of content) into one episode.

1 anime episode = 2-4 chapters in manga, so obviously anime was much faster than manga and everytime anime was close to catch manga they put fillers. There is ~200 filler episodes (41% of all episodes) in Naruto: Shippuden.
Filler definition is: episode that has no coverage in the manga. But there is few fillers arc which are canon to Naruto world and story, because they were written by Kishimoto (author of Naruto) as stand-alone short stories in Japan (ep. 144-151, 349-361, 394-413, 464-469, 480-483). They are in random moments of anime, for example 349-361 and 394-413 should be between last episode of Naruto and 1st episode of Naruto: Shippuden.
About next filler arc which is 20 episodes, it's bad and after it are 2 very good canon arcs in NS (espiescially second one which is the best in whole anime, it's just masterpiece) with so many action, so emotionally. So I please do let us wait for your reaction on these 2 arcs for almost 1 month :)

The manga was coming out with one chapter a week for years and rarely took breaks, it's not an issue of laziness. Episodes can cover more content over a shorter period of time because of the animation. A scene that might get two or three pages devoted to it might only take a few seconds of animation. So, the show naturally moves much faster than the manga does, even though they both saw weekly releases.
Well just so you know...Masashi kishimoto is one of the hard working insane manga artist in manga history ..He didn't have a honeymoon until Naruto had ended. It's a grueling schedule

Also, people & you need to stop judging the series so fucking harshly. That's why whenever people bitch about Kishi, I tell them to inform me of a better shounen manga that has lasted as long as Naruto.
It's a completely different kind of genre than what a lot of people are used to, and that's also why I pinpoint people who bitch on this forum as being butthurt more often than not.

As for fillers look ahead about them, bunch of fillers of adults characters childhoods and more of previous hokage like the third and other characters with little screen time. Some uchiha stuff too.

Tbh, Kishimoto really dropped the ball with Kakuzu's fight, instead of making Chouji and Ino be cool for a change and avenge their teacher, they just... Kind of stand there? Being useless? And then Naruto comes to save the day and show off his hot new jutsu. Avenging their teacher for them. Shikamaru was done REALLY well this arc, but Chouji and Ino are Tentenned HARD
It takes time to write and draw a manga and mind you, 5 pages in a manga can sometimes amount to only 5 seconds in an episode, so it is inevitable that the anime catches up for long running series such as Naruto. Also, you can't just wait for the manga to be complete since at that time the manga will have lost popularity and the manga sales would not be as much as if it had an anime airing at the same time. The way to look at it is that Naruto is like a seasonal anime such as My Hero Academia, except instead of waiting a year between seasons, you get a filler arc which itself is interesting, just not as interesting as the main story. Having fillers is what allowed Naruto to be a near constant in people's lives and have the impact it did. Without the fillers there wouldn't be a Naruto and a lot of fillers contribute to the story in an interesting manner (Sora arc for example). That being said, you get to choose whether you want to skip them or not.
It has a bunch of new characters, all with their own jutsu, so its good for diversity, and it presents a story with the 3tails. It's worth watching but knowing what is to come your audience will most likely be impatient.
